Geocaching

On the way to Penticton last weekend we went Geocaching!

We have always wanted to try this, but never had a GPS so....bummer. Brad went with a fellow mapping buddy already so he's already hooked. It was my turn.

So we pulled over in the middle of nowhere. There are a few clues and hints about where to pull over on a cache like this. All we had were the coordinates and we knew it was a bend in the road.

This one had a big hint about the cache being near some old rusty cans. We found the cans and started poking around. Brad finally found it!

We opened it up and there were treasures inside!

There is also a notebook so you can write your name, the date and whatever else you want. You can see when it was last found and see who left what treasure and who took what treasure. (If you take something, you should leave something.)

I was choked that I didn't think of something mental to leave. Damnit!! But we had our own treasure to leave for someone.

A GeoCoin!!

These are special - Brad found it in his first geocache that he did on a local hike in Victoria. You go to a website and enter the number and you can see where it's been and track where it ends up. This one was in Germany before Brad picked it up. So. Cool.

Now we can track where it goes from here. Right now it's likely still sitting there, inside the rusty tin can where we found it. Weird.

Neat-o! My friend who I was just visiting in Kingston is a big fan of geocaching! She showed me some of the ones that we found while we were walking around town. Are you guys gonna do more?
