We had some friends over for dinner on Friday night, they asked us if we were going to "the book sale"?
Every year the Times Columnist puts this event on. If you have used books that you don't want anymore, just donate them and they circulate in the book sale. Proceeds go to charity. This year the event was held in an abandoned furniture store.
Soft covers were going for one dollar. One. Dollar. *
On the way to the sale, we were walking along and this 12 year old kid skipped along beside us asking if it was our first time. Are we that obvious? He was beside himself with excitement, carrying two big, empty canvas bags and was planning to get all his reading material for the whole year.
Once inside I made my way to the Classics section and found a Thomas Hardy book I don't have. What a find! The rest of the classics were rather sparse, so I wandered into the General Fiction area.
There were people there with boxes, throwing books in without glancing at them...seasoned veterans. Books everywhere - all over the tables, underneath the tables.....in piles on the floor. I managed to restrict myself to five books.
In the elevator in our building on the way home, a woman got in, looked at Brad's books and said "Ah! you must have been to the book sale!"2. Indian Plum
We went for a walk along Dallas Road the other day. It is a gorgeous walk, you can get right near the edge of these cliffs that face onto the ocean. We saw lots of dogs**, lots of monuments, a guy with a Halloween mask playing the guitar and blooming Indian Plum.

Indian plum is native to British Columbia and one of the very first to bloom. If you ever see it, take a leaf and rip it in half - it smells like fresh peas.
3. Starbucks cards
I'm so upset. I had four Starbucks cards that I was planning to combine and use during my unemployment for the occasional outing. All gone. They seem to have disappeared out of my wallet somehow. This disturbs me because tracing my steps, the only thing I can come up with is that they have fallen out somewhere without me realizing it.
Just thinking about the loss of all that coffee is enough to drive me mad.
*I know. As if I need more books.
**Rawbean, you would have been in heaven.

I was hoping the second asterisks were for me!! I love dogs.
Wow that sale sounds intense! Good work on restricting yourself to five books. Now that I am study-free I am sooo looking forward to reading.
Lovely plant too! Thanks for the mini lesson.
I already see 2 that peak my interest: Memoirs of G.(why did they fuck up the movie???), and P.D. James. Sweet score lady.
my bro-in-law and family live on dallas road (they rent)... beautiful view.
as for book sales, i just don't have the knack or patience to pick... books that i read tend to be referenced from friends... yup, pretty much every book. it's almost like a pre-scan.
chantoon.
Rawbean - I finally got "the book" from my Mom. I've already read the first chapter.
IG - Yeah, PD James - Brad had one of those books and it was really great. I'm anxious to read this one...
Chantoon - That's interesting though because each friend would then recommend something different!
