What is with the rocks here!?

I went out on the weekend and took some pictures around my new neighborhood of a strange phenomenon I've noticed here.

Do you see anything interesting about this church?

No? Okay, do you see anything similar in this picture I took in the car along a busy road?
(I know, these pictures are awful....if you want to see some good pictures of Victoria, check out this blog.)

Okay, there are rocks everywhere here. And I'm not talking small landscaping rocks, or man-made rock walls. These are massive landmasses of rocks with moss, ferns and even trees growing out of them!

I mean seriously.....

Finally, here are two pictures of a school yard near my house. That's me standing on the top level, near the building...but check out the levels of rocks leading down to the basketball courts!! Note the trees growing out of the rocks....

whoah that is rocky! I noticed more open space when I was there. Like I felt more exposed. I think the rocks add to it.

That's why Victoria is nicknamed "The Rock" ha ha, so funny

Yes, the whole city seems to be built on rock with little bits of dirt here and there.

Thanks for the nice words and link.

You're really cruising the neighborhood now - if you'd thrown a rock from where you took several of your pictures you could have hit my place. Walk a little further past the elem school and turn left onto craigflower and you will find Spiral Cafe - good place for coffee/music/art/Vic West Community.

Rawbean, I hear you - it's the lack of towers!

Sassy, We also heard that from another friend the other day! We're learning...

Ben,
That is a destination high on our priority list! I love supporting small businesses like that, and right in the neighborhood too!
