My Challenge

Remember the challenge I gave myself last year? Read 23 books in one year. It still doesn't seem like much, but nevertheless I succeeded in my challenge!

Here are most of the books I read (or attempted to read) through the year.

I'm such a dork I even kept a list. It's colour coded for what I read that I own, library, book sale, borrowed and ereader. My list looks impressive but I've included books that I didn't finish.

It turns out I read 30 books. So this year I'm going to challenge myself to read 35 books. I might not make it since I'm losing two weeks to Italy. Good reading time on the planes, but still two weeks without quality reading opportunities. (Don't worry, I'm not complaining.)

Now the big question for you guys:

I need page-turner recommendations! What have you read that you couldn't put down? I want something like this for our trip - lots of long flights and I'm a nervous flyer - a page-turner is in order. (I just finished Da Vinci Code....I know - what was I thinking?! I should have saved it!)

Two years ago, I challenged myself to read a book a week, so 52 in a year, and ended up reading about 35 books. I'm a nerd too; I keep track of all the books I read in a year (see the sidebar on my blog), and usually average in the 30s each year.

Okay, I've been racking my brain for page turner suggestions for you, and here's what I've come up with. I dunno if they're exactly page-turners in the sense of the Da Vanci Code, but they are books that I read quickly.

1) The Curious Incident of the Dog in the NIght Time - Mark Haddon

2) Bossypants - Tina Fey (hilarious!)

3) The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls (or its "sequel" Half Broke Horses)

4) The Help - Kathryn Stockett

5) Room - Emma Donohue (note: the topic is grim, but the book is great, and I feel it's worth reading!)

6) Mr. Shakespeare's Bastard - Richard B. Wright

Should I really be recommending books? No. I shouldn't. SO I won't. But I'm really impressed with your accomplishment.

Can you start a countdown clock to your trip please???

I totally agree with Christielli- one of my favourite page turners has been the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime- only I read it in 2 1/2 days and had to pack it around for the whole trip! YAY! I'm so excited for you guys--- it's coming quick now! Bon Voyage!

Okay, I've read Curious Incident. Since The Birth of Venus is SO good I bought Room for the trip...the library doesn't have any of the others but I might buy Glass Castle because you are the second to recommend it.....THANKS!!!

I don't know how to do a countdown on here...we leave on Friday the 17th!!
