Okay fine - I didn't eat wheat or dairy for over a year.....I can do this. Plus, I've replaced the sugar in my coffee with Stevia - a natural sweetener. (If I couldn't have coffee I would never have agreed to this in the first place.)
So, the first few days weren't bad at all, I didn't think much about it. Then I just missed having something sweet after dinner.
Now I've entered the stage of curling up in the fetal position after dinner for an hour or more trying to ride out my craving. Brad offers me apples dipped in maple syrup, a banana....a cup of tea.....nothing will do.
I've heard of people doing this who have really bad cravings: Chocolate, pie, cookies... Not me, I'm craving the hard stuff - fuzzy peaches.
I have about 12 more days to go. Then I'm going to eat one of those gigantic cinnamon buns with that white icing slathered all over the top. Or maybe plan a visit with my pastry chef buddy.....

So you're already a half month into this ordeal! YOU'RE DOING GREAT!!!
Apparently it takes 3 months to get rid of sugar cravings for good. Is it just refined sugar you have to take out of your diet, or is it all sweeteners (honey, agave, molasses, etc.)?
You're one tough cookie for lasting as long as you have already. Sugar is a tough one to give up, plus it's so prevalent in basically everything...
Yes please visit me! In fact, I am in the process of perfecting a cinnamon bun recipe for my new mini-bakery. In the meantime, here's a link for a few "No refined sugar" recipes: www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index.php?list=Dietary&DietID=4 I just bought the Vegan Cookies and Vegan Cupcakes books today.
The pancakes and apple crisp look especially satisfying.
That sounds like a serious challenge. But sugar is in so many things, how would you possibly avoid all of it?
At least you can have it again! Imagine never being able to have sugar again. Good luck on the last five days.
Now I'm craving fuzzy peaches.
Oh my god the torture! I would die without chocolate.
Interesting on the fuzzy peaches. Well it's 11 days now, hopefully you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
PS I can't do cinnamon buns with white icing ever since we had them at work once and they were over sweet. Still gives me nausea just thinking about it.
Dana - I can have honey and maple sugar. And I put Stevia in my coffee - but it has such a strange taste - it almost tastes manufactured.
Robin - MINI BAKERY?! Good god woman we have to get together.
Galapagos - I know! It's even in stuff like Hoisin Sauce, Fish Sauce and ketchup so no yummy marinades.
Chrstielli - Yeah, my mantra: "It's only a month. It's only a month....."
Rawbean - One week from today! Was your cinnamon bun experience as bad as the chicken sandwich experience? Have you eaten there again since?
I have eaten there again but visits to Royal Centre are much less frequent!
