You cook the hell out of it, that's what.Everybody Loves Sandwiches, the best food blog ever came to my rescue for the 139th time. She posted this recipe and I had to try it. It's the perfect mixture: sausage and chickpeas. I'm so there.
This is now our absolute favourite meal. We make a bit of brown rice with it to stretch it out into leftovers. Even warmed up the next day for lunch - divine. I've tried lots, and lots, and lots of other recipes from this blog and she always delivers.
(Oh and her Etsy shop is amazing too.)

Yeah, I've never been interested in eating kale. It just seems like something you aren't supposed to eat.
I, of course, am biased, and I LOVE KALE!! I usually just steam it for 2 minutes or so and have it over brown rice with some spicy thai peanut sauce or other savory sauce. I eat kale almost every day, and days where we don't have any kale in the fridge feel tragic...
I don't eat the thick stems in the middle, but otherwise, I kind of love its crazy coarse texture. Once again, though, I'm totally biased when it comes to kale and love. :)
Oh that recipe looks really delicious! I should try it. Yes I also enjoy Everybody Loves Sandwiches but I don't cook as much as you guys.
It's ironic that you posted this because just yesterday, I was searching some recipes online and there was one with kale and I was like "WTF is kale?" However, I was looking for vegetarian recipes and this one had meat in it so I never had to find out what kale is.
But now I know! Thanks.
That recipe looks delish. I love chickpeas with a passion. I might try it when I'm cooking for a non-vegetarian!
galapagos - You know, I thought that about onions. When you slice them, they make you CRY. How can they be good to eat? (But I LOVE them anyway.)
Dana - Do you eat it raw though? I don't know....I can't imagine.
Rawbean - Seriously, try this recipe. It's perfect for one!
Chrstielli - Maybe you could substitute veggie ground round or something for the sausage?
No, I draw the line at raw kale. Too much fiber! :)
I love kale! Eat it all the time..
including raw.
Start by shedding it adding a little to salads, but it's good on its own too. Cut it up, leave out the thick stems, then dig your hands in and massage it until it's soft and dark coloured (looks cooked). Add maybe a little red pepper diced small, some sesame seeds, oil, balsamic vinegar. Mmmmmm. Quick and easy, too.
Good in soups.
What can't kale do?
