Kobo

Well, it finally happened. I finally broke. Do you know what broke me?

Those damn hardcover books that weight 20 pounds from the library!

I was always the one who said "I'm a book girl. I can't imagine curling up with a 'device' for a night of reading. Nuh-uh.'

I had to stop hauling my giant library books to work for lunch time reading because there just isn't room in my bag and it hurts my shoulder!! If I don't take a break from my computer at lunch I get grouchy. If I don't have a book to read - I get grouchy. Something had to give.

At first I looked at the Kindle, I was a little uncomfy with the whole 'Amazon Only' thing but I could deal. After further research, I realized that all of the titles aren't actually available in Canada so I'm not getting a true picture of how many books are actually available.

Even more important - I like to support the library and after hearing that I can't borrow books on the Kindle I decided to go with the Kobo.

It's the perfect size - it's SO thin and light. I'm in love with it. The best thing so far is that I can lie sideways in bed under lots of covers and prop it up on a pillow and read with no hands. This has always been a secret fantasy of mine - to develop some way to be the ultimate slug while still reading.

Now I don't have to fret about which books to take to Italy.

Oooh-- let me know how it goes! I've always wondered about paper-free books, but I've got the same sorts of reservations that you have about them. Though the hands-free concept sounds great... so snuggly!

Awesome purchase! I have a Kindle ('cuz when I got mine the Kobo didn't yet have wifi), and I like it a lot for many of the reasons you state. It makes reading on the subway so much easier.

I still sometimes read "real" books because I do miss them.

But e-readers are so awesome for travelling!!!

Congrats on your new purchase!

I think this is a super idea considering all the traveling you do!
