The explanation of purgatory just doesn't sit well with me, it's such a cop out and it's so lazy. Not to mention that this theory was debunked by the writers in 2005!Years ago everyone was guessing it was purgatory, but the writers debunked this theory and introduced new elements to the show - time travel, flash sideways, Dharma Initiative etc. Then in the last 20 minutes of the final episode it's like "Oh yeah, by the way it's purgatory. Nothing that has happened thus far really matters."
Really?!
They could have introduced anything and 'explained' it with this summary. Pink hippos started falling from the sky! UFO abductions! The Canucks win the Stanley Cup!
I wonder what it was like back in Season 2 when they were introducing all these crazy elements to the show when they had no intention of ever explaining any of it!! Do they really think we are all that stupid?
We were looking forward to watching all of it again once we knew all the answers. But since none of it matters, why would we bother? It's not like watching Fight Club the second time around. Anyone want to buy the first three seasons on DVD? I'll start the bidding at fifty cents....

uh huh.....it annoyed me how they were like "we added all of these interesting details for people who read obscure books etc." - yea and none of it meant ANYTHING!
I have 50 cents! I'll buy it.
And for the record, only the flash-sideways story line was the "after life" aspect of the story, everything on the island was real, and did happen. I believe the writers were debunking the fact that the island and everything was purgatory, which they are still correct about. So only that small portion of the story was not real, and that part didn't matter anyway because nothing of importance happened, it was just a vessel to find each other.
So yeah, I have 50 cents here with your name on it. :)
Boo! I haven't seen even one episode of Lost... thanks for the spoiler alert! :)
Just kidding. The show never interested me in the first place. Ah, well!
Rawbean - Yeah, the obscure books. The Dharma logos on everything (the sharks!) the interesting numbers, the time travel....poof!
galapagos - The fact that the island was indeed real made it even more frustrating! All of those interesting things happened in real life and it still wasn't explained. It's interesting though, we are finding ourselves almost in a minority of feeling frustrated with the ending when we were sure that EVERYONE would be super choked.
Dana - You are so lucky.
Aw shucks. I'm sorry that the show didn't work out for you and Brad. Like everything else in the world, it's all about differing opinions.
The finale of Lost was, for me, was perfect. I think it has to do with my attachment to the characters. In the end it was about the people, not the concepts.
I understand the need for the science mind to get answers about specific things, but if they had done that it still wouldn't have been enough. If they explained the island wheel, and the cave with the light, then people would move on and just ask more questions.
