Yes, you read that right.
I'm now wearing a splint. It's like a gigantic mouth guard that fits over all my lower teeth. I'll be wearing a splint 24/7. I'll be wearing a splint while eating only soft food. I'll be wearing a splint for the next 6 months.
Then. And only then......will I get braces and have jaw surgery. That is - if my jaw isn't too messed up. Which it might be. Only the splint....and time....6 months.....will tell.
Definitely the hardest thing about this is talking. My entire mouth (and voice) are hidden behind a giant WALL. I have to talk louder - which is weird, I feel like I'm yelling. Worse than this, there is no way in hell I can avoid lisping like mad.
Let's just say that a couple days after I got this thing, I was ranting to my workmate RF about it and finally said 'And why ish it that the hardesth word to sthay with thisth thing is Schplinth?'
(This put us both on the floor, we were laughing so hard.)
So this is my life now. Insurance forms, toothbrushes and lots and lots of soup. If you have any good recipes, pass them my way.
More to come.....the story doesn't end here, oh not nearly!

Oh, craptacular! At least you're keeping your sense of humour.
There will come a time when this is all blissfully in the rear view mirror. And we will laugh, and have a beer, and remember those days fondly.... ok, with a vile contempt. But in retrospect, because they are over.
I will scour my recipes for some good ones for you. I have a really easy white chill somewhere...
Staying with the seasonal theme...Pumpkin soup is awesome!!!
I nearly lol'ed (while my class is writing a quiz) when I read your line about how hard it is to say splint while wearing a splint.
You'll get through this, I know you will! And, as much as this sucks, at least you live in a part of the world where you can get treatment for your jaw. Imagine if you didn't!
Hmmm, soft foods, eh? Are you still off of dairy? I'd eat ice cream ALL THE TIME if I was on soft food only.
Also, wine's a soft food, right?
Citric - Craptacular. AS IF I'm not going to use that. Like I said, I wish we could go for a beer!
Christielli - I ate an entire tub of my favourite ice cream the other day. I think it was well deserved. I also agree - there will be more ice cream around here.
Oh my god ice cream is genius! Do that!
Hahaha-- I'm sorry to laugh, but I nearly spewed when I read about the lisp saying "splint". I just got a splint, too (nighttime only, thank god), and it's pretty much impossible to speak while wearing it. Looks like you'll be blending a lot of soups then, hey? It could still be worse.
