He also let me know how much the surgery is going to cost... Eight. Grand.
Ahem. No, that was not a typo. Eightthousanddollars*. Eight. Thous - ok I think you get it.
After that I drove into work. My appointment was first thing so I hadn't been to the office yet.
I sauntered in and everything was chaos...and.....I got laid off.
I kind of don't remember the next hour or two after that. I remember putting my head back on the chair when my boss said something about closing the Victoria office. I remember calling Brad right away and he didn't believe me. I kinda sorta remember sitting outside with my workmate. Shock doesn't begin to describe it, nobody had any idea.
So half of our office has been laid off. My last day is November 1st and I get a severance. My bosses are being really reasonable. It's business and they weren't making money. I get it and I leave with no hard feelings.
My desk for the last 4 years. Bye!
I will tell you more about the job hunt later, I'm documenting all this crap gradually because this blog is generally a happy place. But sometimes we have to get real right? Life isn't all book reviews and cartoons.
Things here will get back to "normal" some time but it's going to be a long road.
* MSP doesn't cover surgery for TMJ because they consider it 'elective.' Seriously.

Awhh your desk is so cute too!!!! Can you take anything with you? You know....since they don't need it anymore?
Maybe this is life making you bank future brownie points and eventually you will get to cash in a long stream of awesome.
Also, we appreciate the "keeping it real". Those blogs where everything is sunshine and roses 100% of the time get a little phoney and/or annoying. People never really connect when all is in permanent state of smooth sailing. It's the crappy stuff that brings us all into understanding and love. True story.
Let me know if you need help proof-reading your resume. Hugs!
$8000 surgery and then the news about the layoff?? C'mon universe! What the what?
Hope that your last week at your job goes well, as does the job hunt after. I dislike the fact that the universe has dealt you a crappy hand, as of late, but you are strong and awesome and I know you'll get through all of this stuff.
And we'll all be here for you.... Even if we can only help in little ways like sending you new music etc. :)
Seriously??! Wow, that feels like a major blow. First, MSP not covering TMJ surgery-- what the HELL? And the layoff, too. Yikes!
I am smack dab in the middle of a woo-woo, "the Universe will always provide" phase, so the Pollyanna can't help but feel that the layoff is for the best, at least in retrospect. Still, though-- fingers crossed for your job hunt (and putting $8K aside for your future surgery. That's some serious robbery there.)
