Childhood Heebies

Since we are on the topic of childhood creeps, I might as well keep going....

When I was a kid my cousin Karen and I had two favourite movies that we must have watched over a dozen times. Man, we used to get the heebies something awful, and we loved every minute of it.

Our favourite movie was The Watcher in the Woods. It's Disney. I know. But it's creepy, it really is! Take a look at Bette Davis and tell me she isn't creepy.

I dare anyone to watch the opening credits and not get the heebies. It's a scene of someone (or something, a werewolf?!) running through the woods, trying to keep up with a car that's passing by. The best part about it is that it's shot from the perspective of the thing in the woods.....yikes. I'm convinced that this scene alone is a huge part of why I'm prone to the heebies.

I made Brad watch this movie a couple years ago and he thought it was a joke. C'mon - the coffin scene is creepy!!

The other movie that we loved was The Changeling.

The scariest part for us was the scene near the end with the wheelchair, which isn't too bad when I watch it now. When we had sleepovers and turned out the lights we would convince each other that some random shadow in the corner was "the wheelchair".

The creepiest scene in the movie by far is this one:

 Oh, so well done.

NERAK..NERAK...NERAK!!!!

Omg!!
I totally remember being freaked out watching these. Remember the ball that bounced down the stairs in the Changeling. And the guy took it to a bridge and threw it over then the next night it bounced down the stairs again??? Ahhhhh!!! I'm 37yrs old and it's freaking me out now!! And that damn wheelchair in that dark space under your bed....ugh!!!

Ahhh, creepy times!! They were fun!

I have avoided horror movies most of my life. Because I can't handle them. Overactive imagination.

I only slightly remember Watcher but I do remember it freaking me out... Every time there's an eclipse I get twitchy though I don't really remember what happened. Vague childhood memory but so strange that it had that big an impact. I'm probably going to have to watch it again. And The Black Hole.

The Changeling was partially filmed just down from where I grew up....that big house fire at the end...that was a set jsut for the facade. Everytime I passed that property for years gave me the creeps.

I never watched either of those movies.

I agree with you that Bette Davis looks pretty creepy in that picture. She reminds of the witch in Snow White, who scared the bejesus outta me.

Another movie character that gave me the creeps as a kid was the ghostly librarian in Ghostbusters.
