Drilling III

Can you believe that we are still living in the middle of a construction site? Remember The Drilling?

One night last week we came home and found the window blinds re-installed*. It was like that scene in The Money Pit where Tom Hanks realizes the stairs are back in and and he gleefully runs up and down them a few times just for the pure joy of it.

I ran to the window and ran my hands along the blinds, twisted them open and closed a couple times - seriously, no blinds since May. May.

One night a couple weeks ago I came home from work to this:

The place was deserted other than Brad and Ziggy in the middle of the living room floor - staring at an opening in the wall. We found the contractors - they weren't sure how long it would be until they got the window in - so we put Ziggy in the bedroom and went for a coffee. Got home - still the gaping hole.

They finally installed the window later that night. The next morning the place was full of flies.

I work with contractors and I love it. I've been super patient and don't really mind the work but I'm over it. We have piles of crap everywhere, no railing on the balcony, we can't open the sliding doors and there are bedsheets on the bookcases. Bedsheets on the bookcases!

They're scheduled to work until the end of November.

*....on three out of five windows, we are still partially blind-less.

Good gravy! You poor dear! That is not fun. I had a condo on the fifth floor of a six floor buiilding that they took the roof off to make a seventh floor with penthouse suites on. Then the contractors left town for the summer right before the WETTEST May in the history of SK. It poured buckets for two weeks straight. It was bad enough having a sunshine ceiling in the kitchen, let alone water pouring from it, over my dishes, and flooding the "sun room" and while it took them months to repair the damages throughout, we were never "without" things like sheetless bookcases and blind-covered windows. I feel for you. And I totally think it's reasonable at this point to be "so over it."

I'm baking you virtual brownies as I write this.

I'm *so over* the construction work on your behalf, too! And still another month to go? Ugh. Hopefully there aren't any more gaping holes planned, especially with the wet weather we're having now.

We did a reno on our family home when I was growing up, and hundreds of moths found their way inside before the insulation could be put in. There were moths EVERYWHERE in the house (beds, bathroom, even in the refrigerator!)-- big ones, too. My sister *still* has a phobia of moths now, and that reno was 20 years ago! Flies suck, too.

Holy never-ending renos! Looks like you are in the homestretch though! :)
